College athletes from across the region are competing at the UNCW Seahawk Invitational this weekend.

WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) – College athletes from across the region are competing at the UNCW Seahawk Invitational this weekend.

This is UNCW’s only home Track and Field meet of the season. The competition started Friday morning with distance events.

UNC Pembroke’s Antony Kigen took the top spot in the men’s 5000 meters, crossing the finish line in 15 minutes and 22 seconds.

In the women’s 1500 meters, UNCW’s Claire Carmichael claimed the victory with a time of 4:58:12.

UNCW’s Owne Marsh finished second in the men’s 1500 meters. Marsh’s time was 4:01.

The competition continues Saturday at 10 a.m. and is free to the public.
