WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) – Free back-to-school haircuts for students will be offered at Cape Fear Community College and Southeastern Community College.

The cosmetology school at Southeastern Community College will offer haircuts for kindergarteners through twelfth graders. Haircuts will be offered on Thursday, August 22 from 5:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. and until 3 p.m. on Wednesday.

The school says walk-ins are welcome but appointments are preferred. Haircuts will be offered in Room 128 of B-Building. The college is located at 4564 Chadbourn Hwy, Whiteville.

“You got to think about it. Kids going back to school, it’s going to help build their self-esteem and their confidence. We all know that when we look in the mirror sometimes that can make or break a day so we want to be able to give that confidence to the kids for their first day of school,” said Eli Murillo, Lead Cosmetology Instructor at Southeastern Community College.

According to Cape Fear Community College, haircuts will be offered on Saturday, August 24 from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. Haircuts will take place at the Barber School located at 108 Walnut St.

No appointments are necessary, and all haircuts, which will be supervised by a licensed instructor, will be offered on a first-come, first-served basis. Students under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult.

Shear Elegance Barber & Beauty located at 1301 Castle Street is also offering free back-to-school haircuts to children in need.

“I just don’t want nobody to be bullied or anything like that so I try to get everyone in as much as I can.” said Ta’leak Wilson a barber at Shear Elegance Barber & Beauty.
