FORT LIBERTY, N.C. (WRAL) – A 20-year-old Fort Liberty soldier has been charged with unlawful firearms trafficking and making false statements to the government.
Kai Liam Nix, also known as Kai Brazelton, assigned to the 82nd Airborne Division, was indicted on Aug. 14 by a federal grand jury.
According to the indictment, Nix is accused of lying about his involvement in extremist groups on a security clearance application.
The Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) claims that Nix was a member of the nationalist hate group Patriot Front.
In addition to the false statement charge, Nix faces one count of dealing firearms without a license and two counts of selling stolen firearms. He was arrested on Aug. 15 and made his first court appearance Monday.
