WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) – The former Burgaw Finance Officer has been arrested again, facing two new charges that stem from an incident in April.

According to the Pender County jail records, Hans Kalwitz was booked over the weekend for hit-and-run and assault with a deadly weapon charges.

The Pender County Sheriff’s Office told WECT the charges are related to an incident in April.

Kalwitz was first arrested and charged with DWI, Hit-and-Run, and failure to report an accident on April 21 in Hampstead.

Troopers with the NC State Highway Patrol told WECT Kalwitz was under the influence of alcohol when he reportedly hit a 14-year-old bicyclist, then drove away from the scene.

The teenager was reportedly uninjured.

According to warrants obtained from the Pender County Detention Center, Kalwitz’s blood alcohol level was .24.

Kalwitz was hired as the finance officer in January, according to a newsletter published by the Town of Burgaw.
