BUXTON, N.C. (WMBF) – Officials have identified a man from Florence who died in a kayaking incident over the weekend in North Carolina.
Park officials said 72-year-old Ross Fulcher launched a kayak from the beach near Cape Hatteras National Seashore Saturday morning. Bystanders reported seeing the kayak flip while trying to ride away nearly 50 years from the beach.
They then swam out to help pull the Fulcher from the kayak and brought him to the beach. CPR was started, but it was unsuccessful.
“We send our condolences to the kayaker’s family and friends,” Cape Hatteras National Seashore Superintendent David Hallac said in a statement.
The North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission is investigating the incident.
