BRUNSWICK COUNTY, N.C. (WECT) – WECT is tracking the impacts of Tropical Storm Debby, including the effects on traffic and transportation.
The Brunswick Transit System will not operate on Friday, Aug. 9, due to dangerous road conditions, per the system.
Bladen County
Just before 2 a.m. Thursday, the Bladenboro Fire Department announced that all roads into Bladenboro are closed due to flooded roadways.
“… emergency management reported that Bladenboro has been barricaded off from the rest of Bladen County. Some areas in the town have standing water to up 2 to 3 feet. Between 4 and 7 inches of rain have fallen over the last few hours. Additional rainfall amounts of 1 to 3 inches are possible in the warned area,” the National Weather Service states in its emergency flash flood warning.
The Bladen County Sheriff’s Office asks drivers to avoid the following roadways due to high water:
- Peanut Plant Road and Blue Heron Road in Elizabethtown
- US 701 S and Britt Road in Clarkton
- Harrelson and Mercer Mill Brown Marsh roads
- Center and Berry Lewis roads
- Campbell Road at US 701 S
- Rosindale Road near Burney Ford
- 5040 White Plains Church Road
- 13825 Twisted Hickory Road in Bladenboro
- White Plains Church Road and Shepard Road
- Rosindale Road and Middle Swamp Lane
- Twisted Hickory Road and NC 211
- Twisted Hickory Road and Britt Road
- Richardson Road in Bladenboro (the roadway appears to be caving before the first bridge off of Forest Drive)
- N Elwell Ferry Road (towards river off of NC 87)
- Center Road at Hester Mill Pond
- Burney Ford south of Poe Elkins
- NC 242 S and Old Abbottsburg Road
- NC 131 and Old Abbottsburg Road
- Galeed Church Road between Church and Forrest drives
- Grimsley Farm at the 15 mph curve
- Richardson Road at Forrest Drive
- Autrey Town Road at Cully Creek
- Marsh Road and Center Road
In an announcement early Thursday morning, the White Oak Fire Department says that high water is present on River Road and N.C. 53.
Pender County
On Wednesday morning in Surf City, the town reported that there is standing water that is still passable at:
- South Shore Drive at blocks 1700, 2300, 2400, Kinston Avenue, Oceanaire Lane and Shaes Landing.
- N. New River Drive at blocks 100, 200, 400 and Mecklenburg Avenue to the North Topsail Beach town line.
- N. Shore Drive at Goldsboro and New Bern
- Canal Street at 1st, 2nd and 6th streets
Brunswick County
The Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office said Friday morning that the following roadways are experiencing flooding:
- River Road and Funston Road in Winnabow
- The entry to Saint James from NC 211 in Southport
- Mercantile Drive just after Beta Court in Leland
- Old Shallotte and Mintz Cemetery roads in Shallotte
- Stone Chimney Road at Baker Drive in Supply
- Old Shallotte Road near Union School
- Sea Lane off of Bach Drive in Sunset Beach
The Town of Leland announced Wednesday night that roads in town are quickly becoming impassable. Thursday morning:
- River Road (NC-133) is completely closed from Mallory Creek Drive to Orton Road (SR-1530) due to flooding
The City of Northwest says that the following roadways are impassable:
- The 4400 block of Bluebanks Loop Road
- Northwest Road between Northwest Gas Station and Acme Towing
- Curve and Big Bear Brand roads
The Boiling Spring Lakes Police Department says that the following roadways are flooded:
- “The curve at Greenview and Wimberley
- 1300 block of S Shore
- both sides of the Mitch Prince Bridge (conditions improving as of 8:09pm)
- Walnut at Redwood (impassable at this time)
- Holly Rd (covered in multiple spots)
- Cherry Rd at East BSL Rd
- East BSL Rd near Camp Pretty Pond
- Juniper (multiple spots) and near Pine
- Funston Rd at East BSL Rd
- Fifty Lakes at Morningside
- Pine Lake near Miller Rd
- areas of Maple Road and also Pine Rd at Maple
- N Hills near Pine
- Juniper Rd is now closed between Hickory and Pine Rd as of 8:57pm
- West Ranch”
The BCSO shared Tuesday afternoon that it is starting to see standing water on roadways, specifically on U.S. 74/76 westbound on-ramp from U.S. 17.
The Town of Belville warned of flooding at the following roads:
- Eastwood Lane from Chappell Loop to Winding Branches
- Olde Towne
- River Ridge
- Woodridge
- Glendale neighborhood: Glendale Drive, Holbrook Drive, Evanston Drive
