WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) – Ahead of a front, your First Alert Forecast carries shower and storm chances of 50 to 60% for Sunday night and 20 to 30% for Monday. While such storms are not likely to reaggravate the improving river situation, they may bring locally torrential downpours, intense lightning, and gusty winds, so please stay alert in case.
Heavy surf and elevated rip current activity are other hazards that will linger into the new week, as swell from the distant passage of Hurricane Ernesto continues to bring momentum into the Cape Fear coastline. If you visit the beach, try to choose the sand over the surf and, if you feel you must venture into the waves, please swim near a lifeguard at the very least.
An easy argument for the best part of your First Alert Forecast is later this week, when the aforementioned front will have brought a shot of cooler temperatures and lower dew points… not unlike what happened toward the end of last week. Always good to reassess, but it looks like storm odds and rip current activity will tend to scale back in this period also…
