First Alert Forecast: rip and storm risks to gradually settle for mostly nice week

WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) – August’s full moon, better known as the “Sturgeon Moon” is a rare super blue moon that will rise at 8:11 p.m. Monday night. Your First Alert Forecast closes this Monday with overnight rain chances between 10% to 20% and remaining low for much of the week. As a bonus, this drier air will also turn a bit cooler with lengthy spells of daily highs in the 80s and nightly lows in the 60s.

The surf will hold at around 83 this week, which is inviting! …but please continue to be alert for an elevated rip current risk, especially in the early goings.

Hurricane Ernesto, the generator of these recent and ongoing rough surf conditions, will likely transition to a cold core storm over the chilly waters of eastern Canada by Tuesday. New Atlantic storm development does not appear likely in the week ahead, thankfully. In any case, please stay sharp for the heart of Hurricane Season with wect.com/hurricane.
