WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) – Amid showers, cooler 70s and 80s did it for temperatures Monday; your First Alert Forecast maintains pleasant 80s with much more sunshine Tuesday and Wednesday. A high pressure ridge will bring hotter 90s, with heat index values near and north of 100, for Independence Day and Friday. Surf is about 83 and will host a low to moderate rip current risk for most of the week; beware of a possible uptick in this risk on or after the Fourth as swell from distant Hurricane Beryl reaches Cape Fear beaches. As Beryl itself roars westward through the Caribbean Sea and toward Jamaica and then Mexico, the Carolinas should face no direct tropical weather threats this holiday week.
