First Alert Forecast: much needed rain and cooler to close the week

WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) – Offshore low pressure holds a small chance to develop tropically within the next 36 hours. In any case, your First Alert Forecast is unsettled as onshore breezes stream ever more tropical moisture into the Cape Fear Region. The combination of tropical moisture in place over southeast NC and a front stalled to our west will keep the weather unsettled through Saturday.

Apart from the alert items in the graphics, you may feel some positives about the weather! For one, more rainclouds favor cooler temperatures in the 70s and 80s versus the 90s. Also, the growing drought may be dented or, at least, stunted.

You’ve been seeing some higher rain odds in your forecast for the late parts of this week, and models are still showing a good “footprint” of accumulation. The drought may make you skeptical of this, but if it indeed comes to fruition, it’d make for a good dent in said drought! pic.twitter.com/7yLmNBbrXn
