WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) – 80s hand off to 90s in your First Alert Forecast from Wednesday afternoon to Independence Day to Friday. Though dew points will trend sweatier, a high pressure cell ought to keep rain odds quite low and friendly to your holiday plans. Isolated to scattered showers and storm chances ramp up as we head into next week. Surf remains about 83 and may harbor a gradual increase in rip current risk as swell from distant Hurricane Beryl reaches Cape Fear beaches.

Beryl itself will lash Jamaica through this evening and reach the southwestern Gulf of Mexico by the weekend. Once an exceptionally strong Category 5 hurricane, Beryl will weaken considerably in the days ahead, but its impacts may still be locally significant. Thankfully, the Carolinas should face no direct tropical weather threats through the remainder of this holiday week and into the weekend.

Today is the tenth anniversary of Hurricane Arthur. No North Carolina landfaller in the modern storm naming era happened earlier in the season than Arthur.
