Families displaced after lightning strike causes fire at Wilmington apartment complex

WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) – Firefighters in Wilmington responded to a fire at Deerbrook Apartments Sunday afternoon, Aug. 11, according to New Hanover County Fire Rescue.

The National Weather Service says the fire was caused by a lightning strike. It happened around 1:15 p.m.

No injuries were reported. The Red Cross is helping to assist the tenants who were displaced.

Firefighters were able to rescue two pets from the fire.
