COLUMBUS COUNTY, N.C. (WECT) – The drought in North Carolina has decreased by one to two levels of intensity throughout the state as of data from July 23.
The extreme (D3) and severe drought (D2) in Columbus County has dropped down to combination to a D2 and a moderate drought (D1). There is a D1 in parts of Bladen County and the rest is just abnormally dry (D0).
“Widespread, heavy rainfall has resulted in a one-category improvement across most of the state,” said Klaus Albertin, chair of the NC Drought Management Advisory Council. “While the deficits from June and early July have not been completely erased, conditions have improved significantly. The rains from this week should result in continued improvement.”
