Governors Ball 2020 canceled in New York City because of coronavirus

March 26, 2020 By 1

Gov Ball has been called off.

Festival organizers announced Thursday that the 2020 summer concerts are canceled due to the coronavirus. The three-day event was slated for the first weekend in June.

“Simply put – due to current government mandates and the evolving situation in NYC, it is neither safe nor prudent to move forward with our June dates. The well-being of our fans, artists, staff, vendors, partners, and the surrounding NYC community is always our #1 priority,” the Governors Ball team said in a statement.

New York City is currently dealing with one of the worst coronavirus clusters in the country.

This will be the first year Gov Ball hasn’t happened since it started 10 years go.

Headliners like Missy Elliot, Vampire Weekend, Fleetwood Mac, Stevie Nicks, Miley Cyrus and Solange were set to take the stage at Randall’s Island.

Those who had purchased tickets can apply for a refund or transfer their purchase to a ticket for next year’s festival.

Gov Ball is one of many concerts and festivals canned because of the coronavirus. The SXSW culture fest in Austin, Texas, was supposed to happen earlier this month but was canceled as the virus spread.

Coachella, which was set to take place in mid-April, has been postponed.

Chicago festival Lollapalooza delayed announcing this summer’s lineup and has yet to make a formal decision about whether they will still hold the event, according to the event’s official Twitter.

Many individual tours, including those staged by Madonna, Angélique Kidjo and more, were also halted.
