WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) – Emergency Management is responding to a hazmat incident in the Navassa area.
The incident has caused several road closures.
Mt. Misery Road at I-140 is shut down due to a hazmat situation, according to the Brunswick Co. Sheriff’s Office.
Cedar Hill from I-140 to N. Navassa is also shut down, as well as I-140 at Highway 421 in New Hanover County.
I-140 E starting at Highway 74 is also shut down.
Officials say to be cautious, people and businesses in the area were evacuated.
EMS says at this time, there are no protective actions necessary from the general public.
Brunswick County EMS says it does not have any information about what caused this incident.
WECT is working to find out more details about the hazmat situation and will update this story once roads re-open.
