WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) – Emergency crews responded to the scene of a crash involving an ambulance Friday afternoon.
According to the Wilmington Police Department (WPD), the crash happened at 16th and Dawson Streets at around 3 p.m.
A Pender County assistant fire chief on the scene said the ambulance was taking a patient to the hospital with lights and sirens on when it went through the intersection. A silver Nissan came through and crashed into the ambulance.
WPD confirmed that a patient was on board at the time of the crash.
The assistant fire chief said Novant EMS took the patient and driver of the car to the hospital for observation.
The intersection has since reopened.
