Driver arrested after hit and run crash sends one to the hospital in Southport

SOUTHPORT, N.C. (WECT) – Southport police have arrested a driver after a hit and run accident that involved several cars.

The driver is identified as 62-year-old Cindy Early. She is charged with felony hit and run resulting in serious injury and driving while impaired.

The crash happened at the intersection of Moore and North Howe Streets in Southport at 1:15 p.m.

Southport’s police chief says five cars were damaged in the crash. The suspect fled the scene, and was later found a few blocks from the accident.

When officers arrived at the crash site, they found a person pinned between two cars that were hit. After being extricated by Fire and EMS, that person was transported to the hospital with serious injuries.

Police are continuing to investigate this incident.
