Dozens of southeastern N.C. roads still dealing with flooding issues; NCDOT assisting

WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) – Roads across southeastern North Carolina flooded as Tropical Storm Debby hit the area.

Many local roadways are still dealing with flooding as rainfall continued throughout the weekend.

The Town of Belville said Tuesday that the N.C. Department of Transportation has been working with the town to mitigate flooded areas in the community, including an NCDOT crew at the intersection of River Birch Ridge Court and Two Pine Road.

“Their swift response and continued presence in our community has been crucial in mitigating further damage and ensuring the safety of our residents. We want to express our deep gratitude for the prompt and dedicated efforts of the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) and the town’s contractors, WithersRavenel and Coastal Exterior Solutions,” said Mayor Mike Allen.

According to DriveNC, the following roadways are impacted as of Friday morning, Aug. 16:

Brunswick County

  • Craven Street in both directions near Seashore Road and Holden Beach
    • “Road closed due to sink hole 150 feet south of Calypso St.”
  • NC 904 (Pireway Road) in both directions near Horseshoe Road and north of Calabash
    • “Road closed from SR 1309 Horseshoe Rd to Columbus County line.”
    • According to the North Carolina Department of Transportation, the roadway will likely reopen Aug. 19.

Bladen County

  • White Plains Church Road in both directions near Burney Ford and Clarkton
  • SR-1730 (Elwell Ferry) is closed.

Pender County

  • SR-1522 (Shaw Highway) in both directions near Carl Meeks Road and Lillington Creek
  • NC 53 in both directions near NC 50
    • “The road is closed from NC 50 to I-40 due to flooding.”
  • SR-1520 (Old Maple Hill Road) near NC 50 in Maple Hill
  • SR-1107 (Buckle Road) near Canetuck Road in both directions
  • SR-1104 (Canetuck Road) near NC 210 closed entirely
  • NC-210 near Morgan Road in both directions
    • “The road is closed from Morgan Road to Bethel Church Road due to flooding.”
  • SR-1512 (Whitestocking Road) near Pearlie Watkins Road
  • The NE Cape Fear River crested at 16.51 feet on NC 53 at 4:15 a.m. on Tuesday
  • Black River at NC 210 near Currie crested at 11.76 feet at 8:40 a.m. Wednesday

New Hanover County

  • Dove Field Drive in both directions near Brittany Lakes Drive and Bayshore
    • “The road is closed from Quail Woods Rd.. to Courtney Pines Rd.”
