WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) – Market street was filled with holiday cheer Friday as the city of Wilmington lit its holiday tree.
Mayor Bill Saffo gave remarks before lighting the tree.
Santa also made an appearance, riding in a horse-drawn carriage down Water Street.
The annual traditions gives people the opportunity to see the tree light up ahead of Christmas Day.
One attendee says even though he’s lived in Wilmington his whole life, it was his first time coming to the event. He says it was amazing to see how many people are ready for the holiday season.
It’s just absolutely great to see the community out here, just coming together,” attendee Foster Kegley said. “And having these special times together, just really shows the true love and spirit of Wilmington and the Wilmingtonians. It’s good to see it.”
Town officials said the 2024 tree lighting ceremony had the largest crowd yet.
