SOUTHPORT, N.C. (WECT) – Dosher Memorial Hospital will hold an Operation Medicine Cabinet event on Wednesday, Oct. 2, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

During that time, you can visit the hospital and drop off expired or unwanted prescription medications at the hospital’s front entrance via a drive-thru.

If you’d like to learn more, you can call the hospital at 910-457-3900.

Sharps containers will not be accepted, but staff can share information on safely disposing of sharps. The hospital cannot collect any medications outside of the event’s published hours.

“The October drug drop occurs in conjunction with National Substance Abuse Prevention Month, a time for community organizations, service groups, health educators and providers, treatment centers, and mental health and addiction counselors to increase awareness and provide resources to help individuals and families with drug and alcohol addiction, prevention and recovery. Operation Medicine Cabinet is a means to keeping controlled substances out of the wrong hands and is one way community members can take immediate action to participate in reducing substance misuse in Brunswick County,” a Dosher announcement states.
