SUNSET BEACH, N.C. (WECT) – District Attorney Jon David has announced that charges will not be sought against a Sunset Beach employee following an investigation into forgery and fraud allegations.
The State Bureau of Investigation was asked to investigate by Mayor Shannon Phillips after he found that someone had forged his signature on a town check.
“On 3/1/24, the SBI received a request from the Sunset Beach Police Department to investigate suspected fraudulent activity of city funds belonging to Sunset Beach,” a previous statement from the SBI reads.
At the conclusion of its investigation, the SBI submitted the case file to the office of District Attorney Jon David for review. David concluded that no criminal charges were warranted.
“I have had the opportunity to review the investigation in its entirety. In consideration of all the evidence, it is my determination that no criminal charges are warranted,” David explained.
