SUPPLY, N.C. (WECT) – The boarded-up former Brunswick Community Hospital in Supply in a few years is set to be back open and full of people.

Leaders with the Medaci Wellness Institute are preparing to bring the first detox and treatment center to Brunswick County.

“We wanted to provide the whole continuum of care for individuals in this area,” CEO Carla Colflesh said.

Colflesh and her team plan to transform the former hospital into a 120-bed facility, complete with rehab and outpatient programs, to address not just the addiction at hand, but to put people on a path to success down the road.

“You don’t just go to detox and get better. You’re going to need continual support and we want to be part of that network in Brunswick County,” she said.

Justin Mohoska now works with the program, and knows first hand the impact specialized treatment can have.

“I was in active addition for 15 years. So, I can one hundred percent relate to coming in and out of facilities or not even being able to get into a facility. The brainchild behind this was to do something different,” Mohoska explained.

While renovations to the hospital haven’t started yet, Colflesh says the community is already welcoming them with open arms.

“The people that are struggling themselves and their families are giving us this feedback that they’re very excited. They want to know how they can help us,” she said.

She says it’s a sign that there’s a need for help and hope in the state’s fastest growing county.

Colflesh said the program is set to bring 170 jobs to the county.

The Medaci Wellness Institute is set to open in 2026.
