COLUMBUS COUNTY, N.C. (WECT) – Columbus County officials are investigating a structure fire that occurred on Tuesday morning.

Corporal Z. Moody of the Columbus County Sheriff’s Office responded to a fire on Peacock Road just after 7 a.m., according to police officials.

A resident claimed the fire started when a space heater ignited his bed while he was asleep, but an initial assessment showed no signs of an electrical fire.

Fire marshals and detectives are actively investigating the incident.
