BRUNSWICK COUNTY, N.C. (WECT) – Two people are displaced following a house fire in Brunswick County Saturday night.
Southport Fire Chief Charles Drew says crews responded to a call about a brush fire just before 7:30 p.m. Saturday. The fire was located near 4100 George II Highway, between Southport and Boiling Spring Lakes.
Drew says when crews arrived, they noticed a house about half a mile off of the highway had caught fire in a heavily wooded area.
According to Drew, no one was hurt and the fire is under control.
“Crews were able to save a majority of the house, but the two homeowners will be displaced,” said Drew.
Drew says crews had to set up a water haul shuttle with dump tanks on the highway to get water to the house deep in the woods. Other nearby residents were evacuated but have since been able to return home.
Part of George II Highway is closed while the Southport Fire Department and other agencies that responded to the call continue to monitor the scene.
The Brunswick County Fire Marshal’s Office is now investigating the cause of the fire.
This is a developing story.
