LELAND, N.C. (WECT) – A teacher at Lincoln Elementary is hoping to bring some added joy to her school. Mrs. Ables wants to buy a spirit day cart for the entire school. She’s asking for donations through DonorsChoose, an online charity that helps teachers get funding for school projects.
“School spirit should be about unity, pride, and shared joy,” Mrs. Ables said on her DonorsChoose page. “However, for many students, ‘Spirit Week’ can inadvertently become a source of stress rather than excitement. When the theme is “Color Day” or “Sock Day,” and a student doesn’t have items at home—and their family doesn’t have the extra budget to buy them—that student often feels left out.”
She goes on to say “The Spirit Day Cart is a mobile ‘equity station’ designed to ensure that every student has the opportunity to participate in school events, regardless of their financial circumstances. It’s not just a box of supplies; it’s a dedicated resource that will be rolled out into the hallways or cafeteria during special events.”
Mrs. Ables needs $310 to purchase the spirit cart. Once she is fully funded, DonorsChoose will purchase the cart and deliver it to the school.
