BOILING SPRING LAKES, N.C. (WECT) – The U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary will hold a one-day boating course Saturday, March 28, at the Boiling Spring Lakes Community Center.

The “Boating America” course satisfies North Carolina’s boating education requirement. State law requires anyone born on or after Jan. 1, 1988, to complete an approved boating safety course before operating a motorized vessel of 10 horsepower or greater on North Carolina waters.

The curriculum includes boat operation and maintenance, navigation rules, aids to navigation, emergency procedures, and state boating laws. The course applies to powerboats, personal watercraft, sailboats and paddle craft.

Certified USCG Auxiliary instructors will lead the class. Participants who pass the course exam receive a U.S. Coast Guard certificate and wallet card.

The class runs from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 1 Leeds Road. The fee is $35 per person, or $30 per person for groups of two or more. Payment is accepted by cash or check only at the door. No credit cards are accepted.
