WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) – The public is invited to register for the third “Raise a Racket Against Domestic Violence” charity tennis tournament set for March 1-3 to benefit Domestic Violence Shelter and Services Inc.

The tournament is held in memory of MaryAnn Breault, who died on Dec. 7, 2021, as a result of a domestic violence-related murder-suicide.

Players will be in co-ed teams, and teams can have players ages 14+ with parental permission. Registration is $50 per person, and the deadline is Feb. 24.

“We’ve received nothing but positive feedback on the Impact Team Tennis format of the event,” said Candy Pegram, Community Coordinator, GWTA. “It’s representative of men and women joining forces to support a common cause in our community, and shows us how much stronger we are when we work together.”

Over 230 players took part last year and raised $20,500 for DVSS, surpassing the previous year’s $17,000 record.

The event is organized by the Greater Wilmington Tennis Association, Holly Tree Racquet and Swim Club and Breault’s daughter Rachel Knowles.
