BURGAW, N.C. (WECT) – Police have arrested a man in connection to a hit-and-run involving a child on Halloween night.
The Burgaw Police Department (BPD) and Pender County Sheriff’s Office (PCSO) executed a search warrant on Shady Lane in Willard.
Cody Bryan Dunbar, 33, was charged with felony hit and run resulting in serious injury and has received a $10,000 secured bond. His first court appearance is on Monday, Nov. 4 at 9 a.m.
“We extend our gratitude to the public, media partners, and all who shared information that helped in identifying the vehicle involved. Following identification, a search warrant was issued, allowing us to collect evidence for this case,” BPD officials wrote in a press release.
According to Burgaw Chief of Police Jim Hock, the child is five years old and was in the process of trick-or-treating Thursday night, Oct. 31, when the collision happened.
He was taken to Novant Health New Hanover Regional Medical Center.
According to a press release from BPD, a 2003-2007 Chevrolet Silverado extended cab truck with a camper shell struck a child on Walker Street and left the scene.
The incident is currently an ongoing investigation.
In an update Friday morning, police said the involved child is “fine and doing well.”
