BRUNSWICK COUNTY, N.C. (WECT) – Brunswick Partnership for Housing is hosting a 15-hour countywide sleepout, Sleep Out Brunswick, to provide participants with an awareness of what homelessness could feel like and raise funds to continue to provide services and transitional housing.

The main event will take place on Friday, Oct. 25, at 4 p.m. to Saturday, Oct. 26, at 10 a.m. by Southport’s Cape Fear Regional Jetport.

If those dates do not work, participants can choose their own date and sleep offsite between Sept. 25 and Oct. 25, such as in their driveway, backyard, or church parking lot.

Attendants will sleep out safely in tents, cardboard boxes, or cars and raise donations. Signup starts here on Monday, August 5.

“This is a guided experience that will take participants through what it’s like to be homeless and in poverty,” said BPH Executive Director Sally Learned. “This a profound and moving experience that we’re delighted to bring to Sleep Out Brunswick.”

BPH also is seeking event sponsors. To find out more about becoming an event sponsor, email here, here or here.
