BRUNSWICK COUNTY, N.C. (WECT) – Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office K9 Axel has retired after 8 years.
“Axel started in May of 2016 as a multi-purpose explosive detection canine. Axel is responsible for finding and apprehending many criminals and locating many missing persons. He performed numerous explosive detection sniffs, that fortunately yielded no explosives found,” BCSO wrote on their Facebook page.
After medical episodes over the last few months, his handler, Deputy Q. Moore, decided to let Axel retire. Axel will return to his first handler, D. Gunnell.
