BRUNSWICK COUNTY, N.C. (WECT) – Brunswick County Public Utilities announced Friday that 90,000-100,000 gallons of wastewater overflowed from a sanitary sewer.

The overflow was discovered at about 11:54 a.m., and the force main was isolated at 1 p.m. to start repairs. As of 6 p.m., those repairs are ongoing, and the cause of the failure is still being investigated.

“Downstream sampling and remediation of the affected site is ongoing via collection by vacuum trucks,” a county announcement states.

The public is not required to take action.
