BALD HEAD ISLAND, N.C. (WECT) – The Village of Bald Head Island has decided not to adopt a curfew for minors and gave an update on transportation in its most recent newsletter.
“Mr. McCall, the Village Manager indicated that based on the comments received at the public hearing, the Village will focus on deterring the unacceptable behavior rather than adopting a new ordinance. He said Village Staff will continue to research what it would take to install cameras at the main intersections that have streetlights. Other items such as additional staffing will be introduced at the beginning of next year as these would require formulation into next year’s budget,” the village’s announcement states.
The village also plans to have staff work on more public education and to meet with the hospitality community to discuss coordination with other island entities. The council also discussed getting a group of teens and children together to better understand their needs and help them self-discipline bad behavior.
As far as the transportation litigation between the town and its ferry operator, Bald Head Island Transportation. In the case regarding the proposed ferry services schedule changes, the village explained that the town, BHI Club, BHI Academy and Bald Head Association all expressed intervening and working to resolve the issue out of court. The next hearing will take place on Nov. 5 after an extension was granted.
During oral arguments in the case regarding the regulatory requirements of the state when transferring ownership, Gardner said the Village opposed the transfer because of reasons important to the system’s users and the success of the island.
