WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) – Two new flight routes will connect Wilmington to Fort Myers, Florida, and Hartford, Connecticut, according to an Avelo Airlines announcement.
Per Avelo, the routes will operate twice a week on Thursdays and Sundays, with service beginning Nov. 7.
“With the addition of Fort Myers (RSW) and Hartford (BDL), Avelo will serve eight nonstop destinations from ILM. Hartford joins Southern Connecticut’s Tweed-New Haven Airport (HVN), Washington, D.C. / Baltimore (BWI), Philadelphia / Delaware Valley (ILG) and three Florida destinations: Fort Lauderdale (FLL), Orlando (MCO) and Tampa (TPA),” the announcement states.
More information can be found on the Avelo Airlines website.
“In August, Avelo Airlines will partner with the Wilmington Chamber of Commerce’s Career and Leadership Development Academy and ILM to promote careers in aviation. Students will fly to Tampa and Fort Lauderdale and speak with airport officials and airline employees about their careers in aviation,” the release adds. “Through the Chamber’s program students explore local career clusters and potential career pathways and occupations, including job prospects, pay, projected job growth, and the educational attainment required for each occupation.
“The program builds leadership skills and highlights employability skills needed for today’s workforce. While in the program, students identify their top career cluster, experience jobs in various career and technology fields, and present their research to their peers. Once students graduate from the 7th grade experience, they can continue in the academy as 8th grade mentors where they further explore their industries of interest and strengthen their leadership skills.”
