CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) – A serious crash on I-485 involving two tractor-trailers and three other vehicles left one person dead and another in critical condition on Friday, June 21.
On Monday, July 1, police announced that 23-year-old Dallas Goins was arrested and charged with the following:
- Misdemeanor death by vehicle
- Fail to maintain lane control
The crash happened on the outer loop between Mallard Creek Road and Prosperity Church Road around 7:30 a.m.
According to the North Carolina Highway Patrol, the initial crash happened on the inner loop between a car and a tractor-trailer. That crash forced the tractor-trailer to go left of center, through the median cables, and into oncoming traffic on the outer loop, then hit a second tractor-trailer head-on.
Another passenger vehicle on the outer loop then hit one of the tractor-trailers.
The driver of the first tractor-trailer was identified as Darrell Kee Buelin of Yadkinville. He was killed at the scene.
The driver of the second tractor-trailer is in critical condition.
Four other people were evaluated but were not taken to the hospital.
The Charlotte Fire Department said the crash had lanes blocked on both sides of the interstate.
Speed does not appear to be a contributing circumstance, according to Highway Patrol, but the investigation is still ongoing.
