Aquariums to host Cape Fear Festival of Trees again for holiday season

FORT FISHER, N.C. (WECT) – The NC Aquarium at Fort Fisher and Museum of Coastal Carolina and Ingram Planetarium are once again hosting Lower Cape Fear LifeCare’s annual Festival of Trees from Nov. 22 through Dec. 30.

Specially decorated trees will be placed throughout the Fort Fisher aquarium, and you can browse with regular aquarium admission. Tickets must be bought online ahead of time.

“We’re looking forward to another wonderful year of the festival at the Fort Fisher Aquarium,” Katie Tate, Director of the Foundation, said. “The venue compliments the trees perfectly. When standing on the lower floor from the right vantage point and looking up at the mezzanine, the sight of all those trees is simply magnificent.”

Lower Cape Fear LifeCare earns money through tree sponsorships, donations from visitors and wreath sales; ticket sales do not go to the nonprofit.

“Cape Fear Festival of Trees is one of the longest-running holiday traditions of the Cape Fear area,” Tate said. “Each year, thousands of people visit the festival and delight in its magic.”

Specially decorated trees will be placed throughout the aquarium, and you will be able to browse with regular aquarium admission.

The fifth annual Museum of Coastal Carolina’s 5th Annual Festival of Trees will benefit not only local veterans and teens but sea turtles as well.

From Nov. 7 to Dec. 31, the galleries will transform to provide a family-friendly holiday activity, fostering friendly competition among 20 tree sponsors, raising funds and providing opportunities to increase community awareness of impactful causes.

Local organizations are joining the museum for a silent auction with the proceeds benefitting a non-profit., with the highest bidders taking home-decorated trees. Each visitor will receive one ballot to vote for their favorite tree. Anyone who wants to increase their preferred tree’s chances can purchase more ballots. The winner of the auction will be announced on Dec. 23.

Attendees can also enjoy screenings of films such as ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas, “Elf” and Disney films as well as coastal, nautical and traditional holiday themes.

The festival is open to the public Thursday-Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 4 p.m. except for Thanksgiving Day. The museum is also open for Dec. 30-31 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The event is free with museum admission, which can be bought $12 for adults, $10 for seniors and $8 for children 3-12.
