WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) – Elisabeth Nance and Jeanette Yoho died after a head-on collision that took place on Market Street near Spartan Road on the night of June 2.

The law enforcement report on the crash was obtained by WECT on June 18, and it says that the officer arrived to find a SUV driven by Yoho and a car driven by Nance. Per the report, the SUV’s front was entirely crushed, with most of the damage around the driver’s side of the vehicle, and the car was seen at the north side of the road with significant damage mostly on the driver’s side as well.

“I was able to see several gouge marks, tire marks, fluid, and debris field where vehicle #1 [the SUV] was travelling North in the Inside South bound lane. It was clear from the scene that vehicle #1 was travelling the wrong way. Initial contact was at the front driver corners for both vehicle. Both vehicles had significant crush damage along the drivers side of the vehicles,” the report states.

Both drivers were extracted, but Nance died before being extracted, and Yoho died in surgery at the hospital due to her injuries. Nance’s passenger was extracted and survived the crash.

The office says that vodka, marijuana and methamphetamine were found inside the SUV, and that there was a smell of alcohol. A toxicology report for Yoho was pending as of the report’s publishing.

A third driver nearby was hit by shrapnel, but they survived the crash.
