SURF CITY, N.C. (WECT) -The Surf City Fire Department responded to a swimmer in distress near Beach Access #10 on Saturday, Aug. 17, per a town announcement.
According to the town, crews responded just after 2:45 p.m.
“When Ocean Rescue personnel arrived, two Surf City Fire Department Ocean Rescues Swimmers retrieved a victim from the water. The victim was found unresponsive, and Surf City Fire Department started cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) immediately once the victim was on the beach. Rescue personnel started a medical assessment and continued with CPR efforts,” the announcement states.
The victim, identified as 41-year-old Sean A. Davis from Hampstead, did not respond to advanced life support and passed away.
