SPARTANBURG COUNTY, S.C. (FOX Carolina) – The Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office said three people were recently charged after a baby was found with multiple injuries and drugs in his system.

Deputies said the situation began on June 16 when the Chesnee Police Department asked for help from the Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office’s Special Victims Unit at Spartanburg Regional Hospital.

According to deputies, they arrived at the hospital and found crews getting ready to transport an 11-month-old to Prisma Heath System Pediatrics in Greenville.

Deputies explained that the child had severe mouth and eye infections, damaged neck ligaments, multiple back compression fractures and contusions on the torso, back, and head areas. They added that he also tested positive for fentanyl, cocaine and THC.

During a bond court hearing on Wednesday afternoon, the solicitor said the victim had to have a toe amputated and doctors found burns in his throat.

Deputies stated that through their investigation, they determined that the alleged abuse happened at locations along N. Alabama Ave. in the city limits of Chesnee and Parris Bridge Rd. in the County’s jurisdiction.

Deputies said following the investigation, the child’s mother, 27-year-old Hannah Cason, and 22-year-old Dalton Miller were taken into custody by the Chesnee Police Department for Unlawful Neglect of a Child. Officers also charged the child’s grandmother, 64-year-old Kathryn Cason, with Misprision of a Felony for failing to report the child abuse and initially misleading investigators. After being booked into jail, Cason and Miller received additional charges from the Sheriff’s Office for Felony Child Abuse Resulting in Great Bodily Injury.

Deputies confirmed that the baby was placed into emergency protective custody with the SC Department of Social Services.

Bond was denied for Hannah Cason and Miller during the hearing on Wednesday.
