WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) – This year’s Fran’s Fans is dedicated to Mike Boswell, a Brunswick County realtor who encouraged efforts to get hundreds of fans donated to the program.
Boswell was honored with a celebration of life in Southport last week, and he died back in November of 2023 after a two-year battle with cancer.
Before he passed away, he put together the Boswell’s Breeze fundraiser, where you can order an official Brunswick County Association of Realtors Cares t-shirt for $25 with 100 percent of the profits going towards buying fans for Fran’s Fans.

During a interview on WECT on June 26, the Brunswick County Association of Realtors presented a $5,000 check to Fran’s Fans in memory of Boswell.
He had been supporting the fundraiser for a couple of years.
He reached out to Fran in 2022, persuading his realty company to buy over 100 fans and challenging other realtors to do the same. He did the same thing in 2023 and even showed up to the Southport Lowes to say hi to the team. His wife told Fran that he had been feeling sick all night before but was determined to make it to the Lowe’s at 5:45 a.m. to say hello. He had ended his chemotherapy a few weeks earlier.
A few weeks before he died in November, he called Fran to say that he would be gone before the 2024 Fran’s Fans and that he was going to make sure his mission continued.
Frans Fans will take place later this week, June 27-28. The community is invited to come by and donate at the following locations and dates:

The cost of fans is $20.97 each.
