WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) – A total of 20 911 calls were made after a shooting on 14th Street in Wilmington that critically injured a man on June 29.
Police responded to a Shot Spotter notification at the 400 block of S. 14th Street at around 10:30 p.m. on June 29 and found a man outside suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim was hospitalized and has since been released, but nobody has been arrested in the case so far.
A Wilmington Police Department representative says that it was likely retaliation over a personal matter and not gang-related.
Of the 20, 10 were from people at a nearby party and the other 10 were from neighbors. Six of the calls from neighbors were about property damage from the shooting.
“There are gunshots all over Castle Street. Castle Street. I don’t even hear any police sirens,” one caller said.
Another caller seems to be talking to the victim and saying that he’s “got him”, but many of the calls from the party have background noise making it difficult to understand.
One caller said she was walking to her house to get her baby when she heard the gunshots.
Another said a bullet hit her home.
“There were shots going off and I think they’re having a party down the street a bullet came through my wall,” the caller said.
One caller said a bullet went from one side of their daughter’s home to the other while there were children inside.
