WALLACE, N.C. (WECT) – The 15th annual Hope for the Warriors Celebrity Invitational continued Sunday in Wallace with the par 3 tournament.

Hope for the Warriors is an organization that focuses on helping the military community. This invitational helps them continue fundraising for that purpose.

The golfers hit the links for a nine hole par 3 tournament Sunday, Aug. 25, 2024. Groups included a mix of celebrities, military members, business leaders and supporters.

Super Bowl winning quarterback Jim McMahon was one of the celebrities taking part.

Marine corps veteran Rob Driver says the weekend is a great opportunity to reconnect with the people he served with.

“It’s life changing for a lot of us because it gives us a sense of purpose again,” Driver said. “You know in the military you have your rank, you have your purpose, and with Hope, they encourage that camaraderie to get back together. And without them I feel like a lot of times we wouldn’t be able to get back together.”

The par 3 event Sunday was a tune up for the big event Monday. A shotgun start at 9:30 will kick off a full day of golf. We’ll have full coverage of that event on WECT News.
