BURGAW, N.C. (WECT) – A $10,000 grant was given to Pender County from North Carolina’s America 250 NC initiative.

The N.C. Department of Natural and Cultural Resources is the state’s commemoration of the nation’s 250th anniversary in 2026.

“The goals and purpose of celebrating America 250 in Pender County are historical, educational, and cultural,” said Tourism Director Olivia Dawson. “Celebrating the 250th anniversary of America will be a monumental occasion that calls for a grand and meaningful celebration. This milestone marks two and a half centuries of history, progress, and the enduring spirit of the nation.”

Historical exhibitions, educational programs, community festivals, and patriotic ceremonies will be planned and coordinated for the celebrations in the county.

“These America 250 grants will serve as catalysts for local participation in the nationwide commemoration of our nation’s founding,” said DNCR Secretary Reid Wilson. “We look forward to working with communities across the state to build a memorable and meaningful celebration for all North Carolinians.”
